Knoll Wassily Chair

03/03/2023

In 2023, Knoll is commemorating the 55th anniversary of the acquisition of the Italian furniture manufacturer, the Gavina Group in 1968.

The acquisition of Gavina gave the Knoll the rights to produce designs by Marcel Breuer (1902-1981).

To celebrate this occasion, Knoll made a new edition of the Wassily Chair, introducing two new colours to the cowhide upholstery: Green and Cognac.

The famous Wassily Chair is a modernist furniture design created by the Hungarian-born architect and designer Marcel Breuer in 1925, named after Wassily Kandinsky, the Russian artist who was a colleague of his at the Bauhaus school of design.

Becoming an American citizen after moving to the USA in 1937, he is celebrated as the architect of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.

It is this rich history that Knoll celebrates in the 55th anniversary of this icon of contemporary design.

Congratulations to Knoll!
