The prestigious Vitra Design Museum and the V&A Dundee joined efforts to curate this exhibition that looks at a revolutionary and deeply controversial material, widely known as “plastic”, which includes a universe of synthetic products with different characteristics and uses.
The Emeco 111 Navy Chair, featuring a sleek, minimalist design with a lightweight frame, is a modern reinterpretation of the classic Emeco Navy Chair, originally designed in 1944 for use on US Navy warships. The Emeco 111 is a collaboration between Emeco, the American furniture manufacturer, and Coca-Cola, and each unit is made from 111 recycled plastic bottles.
Since its launch in 2010, the new Emeco 111 Navy Chair has prevented more than 20 million plastic bottles from being given away as trash. The composition is 65% recyclable plastic and 35% fiberglass.
The exhibition “Plastic: Remaking Our World” will be opened till the end of August at MAAT, in Lisbon.
