New Directions for Outdoor Furniture: Innovations, Trends, and the Excellence of Brands Represented by QuartoSala

With the growing importance of outdoor spaces in contemporary homes, outdoor furniture is undergoing a creative and qualitative revolution.

According to Pedro d’Orey and Clemente Rosado, partners at QuartoSala in Lisbon, "What was once seen only as functional now takes on an aesthetic and emotional dimension, elevating outdoor environments to the same level of sophistication as interiors." This new paradigm is being led by world-renowned brands such as Paola Lenti, Minotti, B&B Outdoor, Roda Outdoor, Cassina Outdoor, and Poliform Outdoor, represented in QuartoSala stores.

The Value of Quality and Signature of Leading Brands

"Investing in outdoor furniture is no longer an exception. Our clients are increasingly aware of the importance of acquiring pieces with superior design, weather-resistant materials, and after-sales service that offers peace of mind."

The collections of the brands represented by QuartoSala are a clear example of this new approach.

Paola Lenti

Known for its mastery of innovative textile materials, Paola Lenti redefines the concept of comfort in outdoor spaces. Its collections combine vibrant colors with exceptional durability, creating pieces that are true works of art for the outdoors. As Paola Lenti stated in recent interviews, "Outdoor furniture does not need to sacrifice aesthetics for durability; we want to create visual and tactile experiences outdoors."

Minotti

Minotti is an undeniable reference in both indoor and outdoor furniture design, with collaborations with renowned architects such as Brazilian Marcio Kogan and the Danish-Italian duo GamFratesi. The Quadrado line, designed by Kogan, became an icon of the brand, combining the beauty of its unmistakable style with functionality designed for spacious outdoor environments. In Marcio Kogan’s work, even when designing furniture, he thinks as an architect, bringing architectural elements into design, such as the addition and subtraction of volumes. As for GamFratesi, during the 2024 Salone del Mobile, they presented a new collection for Minotti that surprised with its balance of minimalism and comfort, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to enhancing its signature in outdoor spaces with design and sophistication.

B&B Outdoor

The outdoor extension of the iconic B&B Italia brings the same elegance and attention to detail to outdoor spaces that made the brand a global reference. Antonio Citterio, one of the leading designers for B&B Outdoor, highlighted in a recent interview with Domus Magazine: "The idea is to create a perfect balance between comfort and aesthetics, something that naturally adapts to the outdoor environment." This approach is reflected in collections that combine innovation with a strong sustainability component.

Roda Outdoor

The recent collaboration with Missoni has brought a new dimension to outdoor furniture. This partnership blends Missoni's iconic patterns with the functionality of Roda Outdoor pieces, offering creative and sophisticated solutions. As Emmanuel Gallina, a designer collaborating with several prestigious brands including Poliform, stated, "Creativity cannot be confined to the interior. The outdoors is a laboratory where new forms of design flourish." Luca Peverelli, creative director of Roda, adds: "Our partnership with Missoni is an example of how fashion and design can join forces to reinvent outdoor environments."

Cassina Outdoor

Cassina’s experience, with collaborations from iconic designers like Philippe Starck and Patricia Urquiola, has brought a new language to outdoor furniture. The Trampoline sofa, designed by Patricia Urquiola, is an emblematic example of this vision. With soft lines and an enveloping structure, the piece offers a comfort experience that evokes the idea of an outdoor refuge. According to Urquiola, "Trampoline is a celebration of outdoor life, where design embraces people with a sense of lightness and joy." This piece is currently on display at QuartoSala, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to offering the best in contemporary design.

Philippe Starck has also been exploring new frontiers for outdoor spaces. Inspired by the laid-back atmosphere of places like Comporta in Portugal, Starck brought an elegant contemporary touch to the Cassina Outdoor line. In an interview with Architectural Digest, Starck commented: "I wanted to create something that harmonizes with the natural landscape, respecting the environment while providing an experience of absolute comfort." His vision resulted in pieces that combine noble materials with minimalist lines.

Poliform Outdoor

Poliform, widely recognized for the craftsmanship of its indoor pieces, is now entering the world of outdoor furniture with the same attention to detail and superior quality. Emmanuel Gallina, creative director at Poliform, is responsible for the Magnolia line, a collection that combines elegance and functionality. Gallina recently stated: "Outdoor design should be a natural extension of the interior, maintaining the same sophistication and comfort while respecting the challenges of the outdoor environment." The Magnolia collection is on display at the Poliform by QuartoSala store in Lisbon.

The New Perspective on Outdoor Furniture in Portugal

With regions like Comporta and the Algarve gaining prominence in residential projects with generous outdoor spaces, the demand for high-quality furniture has grown exponentially. This new trend is in line with the evolution of residential architecture that is more integrated with the natural landscape.

Pedro d’Orey and Clemente Rosado, partners at QuartoSala, share: "The interest in these new outdoor furniture products has been exponential. It's something new that aligns with the evolution of a new residential architecture taking place in Portugal."

QuartoSala, with over 25 years of experience, aims to offer its clients not only a carefully curated selection of the best international brands but also an immersive space through its five stores in Lisbon, where these innovative proposals can be discovered. In the words of Pedro d’Orey and Clemente Rosado, the interest that QuartoSala stores have generated is something that has happened naturally, offering a rich experience in design and quality, with the confidence of specialized service for outdoor space projects.
